   Dear Readers and Supporters,

               DISCIPLESHIP DIGEST, FEBRUARY 2014 EDITION.

“Love seeketh not itself to please, nor for itself

Hath any care, but for another gives its ease,

and builds a Heaven in Hell’s despair.” – Willian Blake

We welcome you with great delight to the month of February, 2014. It is the second and the shortest month of the year; the only one with less than thirty days. February was added to the Roman calendar in 713 BC. The length of the month changed over time and, at one time, it had as few as 23 days. When Julius Caesar remade the Roman calendar, the month was assigned 28 days during normal years and 29 days during leap years which occurred every four years. February 2014 is a common year with 28 days.

  • It is the third month of winter.
  • The month is named for the Latin word februum which means purification (Februalia), a time period when sacrifices were made to atone for sins
  • The largest American sporting event of the year, the Super Bowl.
  • The Saxon term for the month, Sol-monath, means “cake month”. This is because they offered cakes to the gods during this month.
  • February is known as the month of love, favor and fabulousness.
  • Some remarkable events happened in USA in the month of February:       Feb. 2: Super Bowl;    Feb. 12 Lincoln’s Birthday;   Feb. 14: Valentine Day;      Feb. 17: President’s Day;      Feb. 22:    George Washington’s Birthday.
  • In February, we mark: Black History month, American Heart month, National wedding month, Creative Romance month and National Children’s Dental Heath month.
  • Discipleship Digest: gladly reflects on the theme: I LOVE YOU! WHAT DO YOU MEAN? (attached). It’s in season with the valentine Day celebration. This four letter words has been grossly misused and begging for real definition. The lack of it is the reason for all the calamities we experienced in families, communities and the world. Little wonder: Rev. H. R. L. Sheppard wrote, “Love is the only weapon we need.” Robert Browning said, “Take away love and the earth is a tomb Dr Karl Menninger also reminds us, “Love is a medicine for the sickness of the world; a prescription often given, too rarely taken.” “I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love” and “Love is a fruit in season at all times and within the reach of every hand” – Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
  • Jesus is asking Christians and the Church: Do you love me more than this? (John 21:15-17); Return to your first love!!!(Rev. 2:4-5). LOVE IS THE MOST EXCELLENT WAY AND ALL WE NEED. Find time to read, enjoy it and apply our reflection for the month and kindly pass it to at least ten beloved persons. Remember you’re too blessed to be stressed. Happy Valentine!!!!
