Dear Readers and Supporters,
Discipleship Digest June, 2013 Fathers Day Edition
We gladly welcome you all to the month of June, 2013. June is the 6th month and ushers us to the end of the first half of the year. The month of June comes from the Roman or Julian calendar. June was initially named Lunius. The name probably comes from the Roman goddess Juno, wife of Jupiter; she was the mother of the god Mars and god of sky and thunder. In early Roman calendar June had 29 days but during the tenure of Julius Caesar, he added one additional day making the month of June to have 30 days.
June is the first month of the summer season. It is known as a great month to get married. June 21st or 22nd happen to be the longest day of the year. Flag Day is celebrated in the month of June in United States, Sweden, Denmark and Argentina. On June 14, American celebrates the adoption of the first US national flag which is also known as Old Glory or the Starts and Stripes, approved by the continental Congress on June 14, 1777. The flag changed in 1818 when five additional states joined the Union and Congress passed legislation fixing the stripes at 13 and the stars on the flag to equal the number of states. June 21st is Go Skate Boarding Day.
Fathers Day is celebrated on Sunday, June 16, 2013. Fathers Day honors parenting and fatherhood; usually celebrated by children appreciating their fathers. Some wives cease the opportunity to appreciate their heads and fathers of their children. Just like Mothers Day celebrates mothers, Fathers Day celebrates fathers and all the things they stand for and do for the families. It is the heaviest day in the country for collect calls. The first Fathers Day was initiated by Sonora Dodd of Spokane on June 19, 1910. Fathers Day has been celebrated annually since 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed the public law that made it permanent.
Discipleship Digest joins Americans and the world to celebrate and appreciate all fathers, granddads, stepdads (and fathers-to-be) for all they are and do; for raising world children with tough love. Digest encloses our reflection for the month titled: I HAVE A DAD. Hopefully you will find time to read and enjoy it as well as pass it on. May God increase your wisdom, enrich and prosper you all, to enable you solve the problems of the family and society. Enjoy a wonderful Fathers Day celebration.
Yours Truly,
